Description

The Northern and Western Regional Assembly is the public authority responsible for the implementation of ERDF in the Northern and Western regions in Ireland and manages the Northern and Western Regional Programme 2021-2027.

The programme, supported by a budget of just over EUR 217 million, focuses on three key areas. Firstly, it aims to contribute to a smarter Europe by enhancing research and innovation conditions, particularly by strengthening public research institutions like the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) and fostering links between these institutions and domestic SMEs to maintain competitiveness. Secondly, it aims to promote a greener, low-carbon Europe by improving the energy efficiency of residential homes, targeting households at risk of energy poverty to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Lastly, the programme seeks to address dereliction and vacancy in towns by repurposing under-used buildings into new homes, supporting area regeneration in line with the New European Bauhaus initiative, which emphasizes creating beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive projects.
